Business Tax Renewals FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I file my Business Tax Renewal?

There are three ways to file your renewal: online, by mail, or in person.

  1. To file online, visit our E-Filing Logon page and follow the prompts. This is the easiest and fastest way to complete your renewal.
  2. To file by mail, either complete the renewal form that was mailed to you or use a blank form you can find here. Mail the completed form with any required tax payment to:

    City of Los Angeles
    Office of Finance
    PO Box 102654
    Pasadena, CA 91189-2654

  3. To file in person, visit one of our offices:

    City Hall:
    200 N. Spring St. Room 101
    Los Angeles, CA 90012

    Van Nuys City Hall:
6262 Van Nuys Blvd. Suite 110
    Los Angeles, CA 91401

Please make sure to check the Office of Finance website for hours of operation for the office you intend to visit. Lines and wait times can be very long in the last few days before the deadline, so if you are going to renew in person please plan ahead. For faster service, make an appointment via our website at https://finance.lacity.gov/contact.

I was unable to schedule a Public Counter Appointment online or via text.  What can I do?

You may call our Contact Center at (844) 663-4411 or email us at Finance.CustomerService@lacity.org

I called and was told there were 486 calls ahead of me. I selected the callback option and entered my phone number but have not received a return call. What should I do?

The Office of Finance returns callback requests in the order they are received. Depending on call volume, it may take up to one business day to return your call. We appreciate your patience as we work through requests in the queue.

Call volumes are typically higher during annual business permit and tax renewal seasons. We encourage customers to contact us as early as possible and avoid waiting until the last minute to request assistance.

To help reduce wait times, customers may also use our Schedule Your Callback feature to select a convenient callback appointment time. This optional feature is available when you call the Office of Finance.

I emailed the Office of Finance but haven’t yet received a response.  What should I do?

First, check your spam filter to make sure the response email hasn’t landed there.  As with calls, our email runs a backlog – especially during Business Tax Renewals.  Though all emails are returned, it may take longer than you had allotted.

I prefer to meet with someone in person but have limited options.  What can I do?

You can request for a video appointment through our “Virtual Public Counter”.  You will be able to speak with one of our team members virtually through “Google Meet”. An email address is required and you will need access to Google Meet service. To obtain an appointment, go to Virtual Public Counter Video Appointment Link
