Received an RMS Tax Discovery Letter?

The City of Los Angeles values the many contributions of entrepreneurs and business owners.

If you have received an RMS Tax Discovery Letter, it means we received information from authorized third-party sources indicating that you may be conducting business activities within the City of Los Angeles and may not currently have a Business Tax Registration Certificate (BTRC)

You can confirm that your notice is an RMS Tax Discovery Letter by locating the RMS REF# account number printed at the top of your letter

Checklist for Service

For assistance in determining your tax liability, you may call or visit any of our offices. Please make sure to have the following:

  • Name of You or Your Spouse (if applicable)
  • Account number
  • Social Security Number or EIN
  • Brief description of your business activity
  • Daytime phone number (including area code) or email
  • IRS Form 1099-MISC or Schedule C of your Federal Tax Return for the past three (3) years
     

How to Apply for a Business Tax Registration Certificate

If you have received an RMS Tax Discovery Letter AND have a copy of your Form 1099 and/or Schedule C, please complete the appropriate application using on of the options below. Application or response form may be submitted by email or in person. Please enter the reference number listed on your RMS letter.
