The City of Los Angeles values the many contributions of entrepreneurs and business owners. If you have received an RMS Tax Discovery letter, it is because we received information affiliate sources that you may be engaged in business activities within the City of Los Angeles and do not currently hold a Business Tax Registration Certificate (BTRC). You will know if you have received an RMS Tax Discovery Letter if the top portion of your mailing contains an RMS REF# account number as seen below.

Checklist for Service
For assistance in determining your tax liability, you may call or visit any of our offices. Please make sure to have the following:
Name of You or Your Spouse (if applicable)
Account number
Social Security Number or EIN
Brief description of your business activity
Daytime phone number (including area code) or email
IRS Form 1099-MISC or Schedule C of your Federal Tax Return for the past three (3) years
How to Apply for a Business Tax Registration Certificate
If you have received an RMS letter AND have either your 1099 and/or Schedule C, please complete the following application form and either email or visit us in-person. Please enter the reference number included in your RMS letter.
